Remedial Farriery

We are partnered with visiting Master Farrier Greig Elliott, who has been in the field since 2005 and holds an Associate status. He closely collaborates with our veterinary surgeons to ensure the highest quality of foot care is provided to horses referred by vets or other farriers. Greig works as an extension of the home farriers and provides support for complex cases that require remedial farriery. The aim is for the client to return to their own farrier as soon as possible, with whom our vets and Greig are happy to liaise.

Remedial farriery may be required for all types of horses and ponies with a range of problems, including limb deformities in young foals, traumatic hoof injuries, horses that have had surgery of the foot, and laminitis cases. A team approach between our sports medicine and imaging clinicians, orthopaedic surgeons and Greig ensures that each horse or pony receives individual treatment tailored to their conformation and shoeing requirements.

Referrals

Horses can be referred to the hospital for remedial or corrective farriery by vets or other farriers. Our clinicians encourage team work and aim to work alongside farriers to share knowledge on difficult cases, ensuring a successful outcome for our clients and their horses.

If you would like to refer a case please contact the hospital on 01453 811867
