Donor mare insemination

• Fresh semen                           £371.67 + VAT
• Chilled semen                         £421.67 + VAT
• Frozen semen                         £488.34 + VAT

These fees include:

• All routine drugs and gynaecological examinations to ensure insemination at the optimum time
• Ovulation agent
• Insemination
• Post ovulation checks including lavages if necessary
• All ultrasound pregnancy examinations up to heartbeat/embryo detection for the recipient mare
• Pregnancy scans up to 40 days pregnancy

These fees do not include:

• Stallion collection/Stud fees
• The cost of call-out for any work performed at home
• Pre clinic entry health tests ie. EVA & clitoral swab
• The cost of sedation, if it is necessary
• Accommodation fees (see below)
• If your mare is diagnosed with Endometritis, an all inclusive package fee of £245.84 + VAT will be charged

Other fees:

Donor flush fee £331.67 + VAT

Transfer fee £208.34 + VAT (only charged if embryo is retrieved)

Recipient synchronisation £290 + VAT per donor cycle.

• Set fee for recipient mare synchronisation, two recipient mares will be planned for each donor
• Includes ovulation agents and hormonal manipulation as required

Recipient Mare Hire

B&W Equine Vets has a limited supply of embryo transfer recipients available. The cost of the recipient hire for 18 months (until the foal is weaned) is £2000 + VAT. 

Accommodation Fees

Mare £22 + VAT

Mare & Foal £25 + VAT

We offer 3 days free livery for mares on packages.

Once your mare has received a heartbeat scan, daily livery charges will be subject to an automatic price increase of 20% a day.

All veterinary treatment must be paid for in full before the work commences and the fee plan is not transferable to the following season.

Embryo Freezing

In addition to regular embryo transfer, B&W Stud & Reproduction Services also offers an embryo freezing service.

Embryo freezing or ‘vitrification’ is a method of rapid cryopreservation, resulting in an embryo that can be preserved indefinitely in liquid nitrogen for transferal to a recipient mare at a later stage. Embryo vitrification provides a means of preserving the genetics of a particular mare/stallion combination, for transfer to a recipient when convenient. This can be particularly useful for embryos that are flushed from the donor mare later in the Autumn. These embryos can then be frozen, stored and transferred to recipients early in the spring, resulting in early foals.

Embryo vitrification also removes the need for synchrony of the donor and recipient since the embryo can be frozen until transfer is convenient. In addition, export worldwide of embryos reduces the need for transport of live animals and allows a worldwide market if selling embryos at auction.
